SAGE ADVICE FOR RESUMES, INTERVIEWING, AND MORE!

Control What You Can Control!

Out of Control?
Most job-seekers conduct their job search almost identically to the way Americans pursued the tasks 100 years ago accept they believe that job postings are on the Internet ‘job sites’ and not in the Sunday newspaper. That IS a fact. The fallacy is that only about 15% of all possible opportunities are posted. Said another way, ~85% of real opportunities are NOT posted!
The Future of America

Networking with former, and some current, business friends, acquaintances, etc. is how most executives, sales’ superstars, et al expand and advance their career(s) without ever seeking online opportunities. It takes a bit of time to establish a real network, about which I have written in previous articles, but in the long run, it pays the most dividends.

Sending your great cover letter (email body) and your marketing masterpiece of a resume to whom you would believe would be your potential, future boss is the proactive way to go about it concurrently. Forget ‘job sites’ since the percentage of postings are low and, therefore, draw up to 15,000 resumes, or more! If you see a great opportunity, learn how to go directly to the hiring decision-maker (DM) and probably avoid Human Resources and their ATS software! ALL OF THE ABOVE IS WITHIN YOUR CONTROL!

Not being a registered Republican, or Democrat, I feel free to throw MUCH of the blame for America’s anemic, economic ‘recovery’ on the government. They do not understand, apparently, how innovation, entrepreneurs, and jobs not only drive Gross Domestic Product (GDP) but, at present, it is quickly diminishing the stature of this country economically.

China has about 1/3 of the ~$15T GDP of the U.S. currently. We have averaged about 2% GDP growth over the past 10 years, or so, meantime the Chinese enjoy a ~10% GDP growth rate! At that pace, China will pass America as the world’s economic power by 2030! Imagine who are the trading partners that will want to deal with America at that point! "The Golden Rule - The one with the gold rules!"

The gross domestic product (GDP) is one of the primary indicators used to gauge the health of a country's economy. It represents the total dollar value of all goods and services produced over a specific time period; you can think of it as the size of the economy. However, about 70% of GDP is American companies’ and individual’s ‘spending!”

Under the Obama Administration there has been an unparalleled expansion of the regulatory state, with the imposition of 229 major regulations since 2009 at a cost of $108 billion annually (using the regulatory agencies’ own numbers). The actual costs are far greater, both because costs have not been fully quantified for a significant number of rules, and because many of the worst effects—the loss of freedom and opportunity, for example—are incalculable. The need for reform is urgent. The quarter ending June 30, 2016 showed a 1.2% increase in GDP. IF WE DO NOT HAVE A MINIMUM OF 4.5% ANNUAL GDP INCREASE CONSISTENTLY, well…

The ’government’ does not create long-term, permanent employment of any signifigance – small businesses (with 2 to 500 employees) create the vast majority, and government regulations and weak consumer spending keep them from starting, expanding, adding new jobs, etc.  99% of all jobs! Yet many within the government believe they are the catalyst for new jobs? No, collectively you are the major roadblock to new jobs. OUT OF YOUR CONTROL?

…not quite.  Term limits would diminish the affect that special interests can have on a politician since they are only in office for, say, two terms maximum (like the president) and then return to their 'day job.'. Becoming proactive and researching what those seeking political office have to say on a vast number of issues (and then, can you believe them?). I don’t vote ‘party lines’ as a registered Independent; I vote for whom best reflects my own version of what will work best for this country, my children, and their children. Party Platforms have evolved full circle several times (many believe) since this two-party system began, somewhat, in 1828. 188 years ago?? THIS IS WITHIN YOUR CONTROL, TO A DEGREE!

The time for action is now! Pay close attention to GDP. As it grows, so grow new jobs. As new jobs grow, so grows GDP. In America, we’ve turned this around several times into great economies…let’s do it again!!
